 The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was a performance monster, featuring an all-aluminum engine displacing 427 cubic inches that was originally intended for racing. Just 69 units were built, and they are highly coveted by collectors today. Perhaps it shouldn't come as a surprise, then, that Chevrolet chose to resurrect this classic moniker for what it is calling the fastest and most technologically advanced Camaro ever built.


At this point, specifications are still preliminary, but Chevrolet is estimating that its supercharged and intercooled 6.2-liter LSA V8 engine will put out around 550 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque. Those ponies will be sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission using a dual-disc clutch that's necessary to properly harness all those horses. There's also a dual-mode exhaust system that alters the sound level and character in response to engine rpm.

Chevrolet tells us that its goal was to build "a Camaro intended to reach optimal lap times on top road-racing circuits and excellent driving dynamics on the street." To that end, the 2012 Camaro ZL1 will be fitted with a new electric power steering system and Magnetic Ride Control that will offer both Tour and Sport modes. Brembo brakes measuring 14.6-inch (370 mm) in the front (with six-piston calipers) and 14.4-inch (365 mm) at the rear (with four-piston calipers) bring it all back down from speed.

Naturally, there's an updated body kit to differentiate the ZL1 from lesser machines. Most notable are the redesigned fascia that features a front splitter, vertical fog lamps and air intakes designed for brake cooling. There's also a new aluminum hood with a raised, satin black-finish carbon fiber insert that uses a unique air extractor that is said to increase downforce by directing oncoming air over the car. There's also a spoiler at the rear of the car and new 20-inch aluminum wheels fitted with specially developed Goodyear Supercar F2 tires.

Chevrolet promises to have the Camaro ZL1 on dealer lots in the beginning of 2012, and it will be available in any color offered on the Camaro. We can hardly wait. The fifth-generation Camaro previously played Bumblebee in the 2007 film Transformers and in the 2009 film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The films generated $1.5 billion in global box-office sales, and helped reintroduce the Camaro to consumers after a seven-year hiatus from dealerships.
In 2009, the Camaro was the most-searched-for car on the web, according to Yahoo!Autos, even though the first models didn’t arrive at dealers until late that year. In 2010, the Camaro assumed leadership of the U.S. sports car market from the Ford Mustang for the first time in 24 years. The 2012 Transformers Special Edition will be offered as a $3,000 package on 2LT and 2SS Camaro Coupes with Rally Yellow paint. In addition to the content offered in the popular RS appearance package, the Transformers edition will feature black rally stripes that stretch over the hood, roof, decklid and unique high-wing rear spoiler; 20-inch, black-painted wheels wrapped in high-performance summer tires; and Autobot Shield logos on the center caps and front quarter panels.
Inside, the Transformers Camaro has a black leather interior accented with yellow stitching on the instrument panel, center console, armrests and seats. Autobot Shield logos are embroidered on the front headrests, as well as the center console lid.
Two dealer-installed options are also available: exclusive, 21-inch, black-painted wheels and a black ground-effects package.
Customers may begin ordering the 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro in July, with vehicles arriving at dealers in the U.S. and Canada in September.

Chevrolet today announced that the Orlando Concept, unveiled at last year’s Paris Auto Show, and the Beat Conecpt showcased in at the North American International Auto Show in 2007 will go into production in 2011.
Little is know about either vehicle but the Beat production model, called the Spark, will be officially unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show in March.
GM says the Spark micro-car will get 40 mpg on the highway. There was, however, no word on if this impressive fuel economy will be a result of the turbocharged 1.2-liter engine.
As for the Orlando, this aggressive van-meets-suv crossover was powered by a 150hp 2.0-liter turbo when showcased in Paris.
Both vehicles will be sold in almost all markets as true world-cars. And if the production models look nearly as impressive as the concepts they are sure to be successful.
Chevrolet started the Beat/Orlando press conference by parading a long line of its recent award winning vehicles in front of the media. The Orlando and Spark are sure to join this list in the future, however, the 2011 production date is a long way off.

LOS ANGELES – A vehicle based on the Chevrolet Beat concept, which swept through auto shows around the globe and the Internet earlier this year, will go into global production, Chevrolet announced today at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show.

An online poll that attracted more than 1.8 million voters helped influence the decision to take the concept to production. The distinctly styled A-class car will be initially targeted to markets outside of U.S. and Canada, starting in mid-2009.
“The people have spoken. The vote count tripled all previous GM online consumer surveys, telling us the Beat resonated with customers all around the world,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “Chevrolet was overwhelmed by the positive reaction to each of the ‘triplets,’ but the Beat was the clear winner.”
The production model will carry the spirit of the expressive Beat concept, offering compact, city-friendly dimensions and a small-displacement engine that delivers excellent fuel economy. It adds further depth and breadth to Chevrolet’s global lineup, which is sold in more than 90 countries, giving the brand a leadership position in the segment – the fastest-growing automotive segment in many regions around the world.
“Fuel solutions and great-looking cars are at the core of Chevrolet’s values, and this new production model aligns perfectly with those tenents,” said Peper. “It will be truly global, built around the world for a variety of diverse markets.”
The Beat and the other concepts highlighted in the online survey were developed primarily at GM’s Design Studio in Bupyeong, South Korea , with input from GM’s global network of designers and GM’s Korean partner, GM Daewoo. As South Korea is a primary market for this exciting new car, production will begin there.

Chevy has done okay in Thailand so far. Chevrolet has some interesting models that offer something a little different when compared to the competition, and the prices have been right. For example, the Optra Estate is the only real option for those looking for a budget estate car, while the Captiva brings 7-seater practicality and diesel power to the SUV market.
Vehicles like these have allowed Chevrolet to keep the sales charts ticking over. On the other hand, Chevy's mainstream cars haven't really gained much traction. The Aveo did okay, but bland styling and lacklustre performance don't help its cause in what is a very important segment.
The 2012 Aveo looks set to change everything. An article discussing the Aveo must at some point include references to the Honda City, and Toyota Vios. So let's get that out of the way early. These two cars set the benchmark in the segment, and while they are very similar on paper, they differ significantly in terms of styling. The City is sharp and angular, while the Vios is blunt and bulbous. Why focus so much on styling? Well, in this segment style is probably the single most important attribute to determine success. Young people will tend to want something that fits their lifestyle, as well as their budgets.

Enter the 2012 Chevrolet Aveo. Styling is very interesting, and although I'm not sure everyone will be happy with it, I think it should attract some away from Toyota and Honda offerings in this segment. Perhaps the most impressive show of attention to detail is seen on the inside. The cockpit is very modern. I was going to say futuristic for a moment there, but we are well into the 21st century and I'm still bummed that we don't have flying cars by now. Also, digital instrumentation isn't exactly new, but it seems to be making a bit of a comeback, and frankly, it does suite these small cars aimed at young drivers.

 General Motors will be launching a facelift of the Tavera soon. The updated Tavera will get some aesthetic changes as well as the addition of a new diesel engine, which will comply with BSIV emission norms. The Tavera was pulled out of BSIV cities as its engine did not comply with the new emission norms. The 2012 Chevrolet Tavera will be powered by a 2.0-liter common rail diesel motor that is sourced from Sonalika. The said motor produces 100 BHP of power and also does duty on the Rhino. We spotted the upgraded Tavera
along with the Rhino on test in Manali, where the companies are testing the cold weather durability of the engine. The slight camouflage on the hood of the Tavera suggests the probability of a air scoop in the MPV, which will debut by the end of the year with a slight price hike over the current model.

 Sources have told Indian Autos Blog that General Motors is planning a new Tavera for India this year. Last year we reported that the new Tavera will utilize Sonalika’ CRDI engine on the BS4 Tavera. This could be launched by the end of 2011.

GM will fit the Tavera with a 2-liter Sonalika turbocharged CRDI engine producing 100bhp.
Changes on the refreshed Tavera include new alloys, body graphics, new grille, clear lens lamps and minor changes to the interior. The facelifted model might debut the Sonalika CRDI engine as well as host the existing 2.5 L Direct Injection Turbo Diesel for rural markets. Chevrolet Optra and the SRV in the local market were made by the GM Daewoo alliance and are sold under different brands in different parts of the world. What is a Chevy for us is a Daewoo in Korea and a Holden in Australia but what blew me down was its a Suzuki for the US, “how?” you might ask, all I know is Suzuki owns a little under 10% share in GM Daewoo. Chevy Optra Magnum gets the first diesel engine built by GM Daewoo and this engine is based on the same block as the one in the Hyundai Elantra, Tucson & Sonata Embera.

In terms of basic design the Chevy magnum is not entirely new. This car owes its fresh face to the new grille & bumper. The new front bumper design makes the car’s face look sharper and a bigger Chevy bow-tie sitting on a bigger and bolder grille makes all the difference. Other than that, Magnum is a mix of SRV & Optra, it has the front end (lights, fenders, bonnet) of the SRV and rest is from the Optra saloon. The basic design & layout of the dashboard is the same as the SRV, but quality of materials is much better. Things like two-tone beige interiors and faux wood trim on the center console add some class.

 The best part is it’s new state of the art diesel engine. This TCDi (standing for Turbocharged Common-Rail Direct fuel injection) has one of the world leading torque figures in its class. This 1991cc inline-4 cylinder 16 valve (4valves per cylinder) SOHC engine has a fixed geometry turbocharger and features 1600 bar common-rail components which lower the emissions and improve the fuel efficiency. The max power is 119bhp @ 3000 rpm which is way powerful than its main competition Skoda Octavia TDi or even the Laura for that matter. If you thought that was impressive, peak torque is a banging 314 Nm @ 2125 rpm. The average fuel efficiency is said to be around 13 kmpl.

This engine is originally designed and developed by an Italian engine manufacturing company VM Motori and is licensed to Hyundai & GM Daewoo. VM Motori licensed this engine to Hyundai in 1999 and partnered with GM Daewoo in 2004, GM Daewoo agreement concerns basically the same engine family licensed to Hyundai but with appropriate upgrades and adaptations to suit the specific vehicle needs. The 2.0L engine for GM Daewoo incorporated the latest technology features developed over those last five years; since the Hyundai license was granted.

Chevrolet Spark’s North American  (aka Beat in India) version was  expected to  debut during upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.But company has unveiled the new  Spark ahead of  the schedule. The American version of Chevrolet Spark/Beat looks similar to the variant currently present in India. But if you go into details we
will be pleasantly surprised to know features of 2012 Chevrolet Beat. The new model looks sportier than current model, the front grille have been modified and now grabs a portion of the front bumper.  The strip where Bow Tie sits is broader in comparison to current variant.  The front bumper has been redesigned  to accommodate new  front grille.

Other major changes in the front are new fog lamp housing and new  design air dams. New Chevrolet Spark/Beat will run  a set of  new  15″ sporty alloy wheels. The window panels gets a narrow chrome strip as a beautification treatment. The rear view mirror shape has been changed from rectangular one  to a more sharper design. In the rear, new Spark gets a new bumper and  redesigned tail lamp cluster. The tail lamps are now looks cleaner – Chevrolet has done away with chrome rings  around  the turn indicator and brake lamp combo. But there is a new chrome strip just above the license plate. The exhaust pipe have been nicely decorated with chrome rings. The rear of new Spark looks more attractive compared to current version.

Under the roof, there are many important and value added features in new Beat. Chevrolet has revamped the instrument cluster and new Spark comes with  conventional design instrument cluster. A seven-inch color touch screen  can be paired to a  smart phone. The driver can use this touch screen for navigation, media and can access contacts for hands-free calling. Arrangement of other elements are similar to current version  Beat. The new gear shift lever is new and interiors have been decorated well with body colored strips. Optional heated leather seats are also on offer.

The 1.2 ltr 85 HP gasoline engine will continue serving new Beat/Spark. More powerful engines may follow very soon. The engine may get company of a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic gear box. Chevrolet has not yet disclosed the pricing of New Spark.
“Spark is for buyers who want much more than a ‘cute’ small car – they want a car that can be personalized, is dynamic and fashionable, and delivers a lot of value for the money,” said Chris Perry, vice president, global Chevrolet marketing and strategy.
In India Chevrolet Beat is considered as the most stylish car in it’s segment. The sales of Chevrolet Beat were not very promising till it’s  diesel variant launch in  July 2011. After the launch of diesel variant, Chevrolet Beat manages to crack 5000+ sales consistently. So GM India may leave current generation Beat untouched for some time now. What do you think?  GM plans to launch three new cars in the year 2012. The new cars will include a hatchback, an SUV and a sedan. However, there has been no official launch date provided by General Motors India. It is expected that GM India is planning to launch the new cars with brand new Chevrolet Tavera that would be launched by the end of this year. The new Chevrolet Tavera is essentially the Euro IV variant.
